So Jaclyn has found something new that puts her in the Christmas spirit. But, for me, it's something old. (Geez, we just need something borrowed and something blue and we can get married!)

But, seriously folks...

I'm not kidding, it IS something old. In fact it's something old that houses lots of things that are old that puts me in the Christmas mood whenever I see it this time of year.

Yep, it's that big, gold-bricked building up there--the Owensboro Museum of Science and History.

Now, why on Earth would a museum make me wanna go walkin' in a Winter Wonderland, you ask?

Well, because of what it USED to be--Anderson's Department Store.

It was one of the last of the old school classic department stores with multiple stories, a gift-wrapping department, AND, my favorite part, an ELEVATOR OPERATOR!

Yep, when I was a kid, Christmas began at Anderson's

Mom would take my sister and I to the Christmas parade and we'd sit on that concrete wall that surrounded Anderson's parking lot right across 3rd Street from the store.

After the parade--it used to be held in the morning--we'd go to Anderson's and after giving the store a thorough once-over we'd exit on the 2nd Street side and go up and down Main Street.

Anderson's was kind of like the gateway to downtown Owensboro back then.

It closed in 1988, but the building is still there as the museum, and when I see it this time of year, I'm in the Christmas mood, just like that.
