1 cup lard (or shortening)

1 cup milk

3 cup sugar

3 cup light corn syrup

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

12 cups sifted flour

9 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

1/2 teaspoon cardamon

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon pepper

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

Cream shortening, beat in sugar gradually.  Slowly pour in corn syrup and vanilla.  Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk.  Roll in strips 1/2" to 3/4" in diameter and 3" long.  Place on greased cookie sheet and bake at 375 degrees until almost brown (but not quite).  About 5 to 10 minutes.
Cool on racks.  Makes LOTS!!
