You're on your way to work and need to grab something quick for breakfast, where do you go? I know the answer for lots of folks is the good ole golden arches.

A sausage biscuit hits just right sometimes and maybe that has something to do with the fact that there is a little bit of Kentucky in every bite. If you live East of the Mississippi River, that is.

Hopkinsville, KY is the official Batter Capital of the World. Local farmers typically grow an abundance of soft red winter wheat which thrives on Christian County land. It also happens to be one of the best for producing baking flour.

That's why the two mills in Hopkinsville, crank out over two million pounds of flour daily.  The first, Hopkinsville Milling Company is the oldest industry in Hopkinsville. Bagging flour for grocery stores since 1906. The Siemer Milling Company, provides flour in bulk to chains across the country and beyond including, Cracker Barrel biscuit mix, Red Lobster Cheddar Bay biscuit mix, SunFlour corn meal, flour, and Krusteaz for pancakes, waffles, muffins, and more.

Next time you are traveling through Hopkinsville, take a minute to check out the art installations celebrating the Batter Capital of the World.  You can even book a tour to learn about the local wheat farmers and then get an officially stamped bag of flour from the visitor's center. Hopkinsville Tourism also hosts a farm to table event. I bet that sure is a sweet meal!

So, the next time you stop by McDonald's in the morning, thank a Kentucky farmer before you enjoy that big ole buttery biscuit!
