How and Where to Purchase Butts, Ribs, and Chickens at the St. Jude Cookout
In 2024, the Angels for Ashley St. Jude Cookout got dealt a beautiful hand after many years of typically bitter early February cold. It was warm and sunny and we were pinching ourselves to make sure we weren't dreaming. This year, we're splitting the difference. The temperatures figure to be warm one day and seasonable the other. Plus, there will be a little rain. Still, that's eminently doable.
The Angels for Ashley St. Jude Cookout
Make sure you stop by Shoe Stop in Wesleyan Park Plaza Thursday or Friday or BOTH and pick up a mouthwatering Boston butt, rack of ribs, or chicken. If you can't make it to Shoe Stop, the team will be selling at the Whitesville Mercantile, the Knottsville Water Department, and Weber Corner Convenience Store at 69 and 144 in Hancock County. Norman MacDonald's in Philpot will be a selling location on Thursday only. In order to make your purchase as easy as possible, we have a few pro tips to get you ready.
Angels for Ashley St. Jude Cookout -- the Prices
Let's begin with the prices.
And you don't even have to get out of your car. We will happily bring your future entrée to you. Also, please bring cash to make your purchase as we do not have any way to take a card payment. There are plenty of ATMs near the Shoe Stop cookout site, so that won't be a problem if that's the place you make your purchase. Additionally, there's a certain Big Game happening Sunday, and you're party simply will not be complete without a Boston butt, rack of ribs, a chicken...or ALL THREE.
Friends of Jerry
I'm not sure when this started, but Jerry Morris's charitable "side hustle" has been very lucrative for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital over the years. It's very simple. Give Jerry Morris $100 and you'll become a friend of Jerry. Don't worry; he'll ask you for it, so you don't need to remember. I have actually seen folks walk up to Jerry and give him five Benjamins. You gotta love Friends of Jerry. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital CERTAINLY does.
Don't Wait Until the Last Minute
Last year, Jerry and his team prepared hundreds and hundreds of Boston butts, racks of ribs, and chickens and sold them all. This year, he and the guys expanded their operation at the Mercantile, creating more space for more meat. But no matter how many butts, ribs, and chickens you think the team has or has left, do not wait until the last minute to make your purchase. I can tell you from experience, the ribs and chickens disappear first. Keep that in mind.
We hope to see you at Shoe Stop in Owensboro's Wesleyan Park Plaza Thursday or Friday.
