I went to renew my driver's license this morning and learned a few new things about what to expect after 2019.

When I return in 2022 for renewal, I will need to bring $43, my birth certificate, and a non-laminated Social Security card.

I'm pretty sure I know where two of those things are. And the third won't be difficult to obtain.

According to an FAQ page from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the changes are happening in an effort to "modernize Kentucky’s issuance system and enable Kentucky to meet new security requirements issued by the federal government."

Also, beginning in 2019, there will be something available called a Voluntary Travel ID. It will be something you'll need if you plan to fly within the United States or enter a restricted military base.

You can still use your standard-issue driver's license to board domestic flights through October 10, 2018.

Actually that FAQ page has a lot of interesting questions and answers that some may really not know. Click here to check it out.
