I don't exactly remember the first time I walked into a Cracker Barrel, but it was a long time ago and we were traveling.

I know that much because Cracker Barrel Restaurants used to only be along interstate highways. We only ate there when we traveled. And we ALWAYS stopped at least once at a Cracker Barrel while on vacation. Oh, and there's something else you may not remember. Back in the day, you could only find a Cracker Barrel in the south. So, we could only take advantage on our trips to Florida. (We'd do Florida one summer, New Mexico the next, then switch back.)

But I always loved the atmosphere--then and now. The rustic decor is a Cracker Barrel trademark, so when this video was posted on TikTok, some were a little concerned that things were changing TOO much at their favorite eatery:

Well, they can tap the brakes on that level of concern; Cracker Barrel has confirmed they're not going for the hospital cafeteria look. But changes ARE coming to your favorite home cooking haven. According to CBS News, Cracker Barrel's CEO has indicated "the brand isn't relevant," and a shake-up is needed.

The company 'has lost some of its shine' and needs a 'transformation' to continue to appeal to its current customer base and draw new diners. Its challenges run the gamut from prices to menu options, she added, citing a recent in-house study that compares Cracker Barrel with its competitors, based on food, experience, value and convenience.

So the menu will be the primary target, and will include new fall items like green chili cornbread, premium savory chicken and rice, slow-braised pot roast, and hash brown casserole shepherd's pie. (Whose mouth is watering?)

And a remodel IS a part of the upgrade, but not to worry; the plan is to "freshen things up" but make sure Cracker Barrel is still Cracker Barrel.
