It’s Officially Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana Cookie Season!
Hear ye! Hear ye! Citizens of Kentuckiana rejoice! The time has come to let your sweet tooth take over and order those delicious cookies for a cause. I tell myself it's peeeeerfectly fine to order a case of them. Indulging is justified on my end when the money I spend on tasty treats goes to a worthy organization.
The cutie pie you see in the picture is my friend Mallory Hinson from Girl Scout Troop #1144. She is a student at Newton Parrish Elementary and has been participating for a few years now. I love learning about all of the fun things they get to experience and the service projects they do for the community.
Their troop has used cookie funds to make self-care bags for patients receiving treatment at the cancer center. They've hosted bingo and craft nights with residents at a couple of local assisted living homes. Doesn't it feel good to know that you can treat yourself to some cookies and help these ladies in their mission?

Having fun, trying new things, and making friends are part of that mission, too. From trips to the circus to camping trips, where they've learned how to fish, swim, and safely explore the outdoors. They kick off the holiday season every year by making a float and riding in the Owensboro-Daviess Co. Christmas parade.
Mallory told me, "I love Girl Scouts because I get to hang out with my friends, sell cookies, and do fun activities. People should buy cookies because they're delicious and to support the community."
When they aren't learning entrepreneurship through hustling cookies, they are ice skating, rock painting, rocking out car washes, and doing lots of crafts. Remember, this is just one troop! There are multiple groups in the area with amazing young ladies kicking cookie season into full gear!
I've already placed my order. Excited to try the new Exploremore cookies that are rocky road inspired. "Featuring a chocolate sandwich cookie with a rich chocolate, marshmallow, and toasted almond-flavored crème filling, designed to embody the Girl Scout spirit of adventure."
