A Popular Kentucky Wedding Venue Also Has a Very Spooky Legacy

If you were getting married and had your eye on a certain venue for the celebration, would it deter you in any way if you learned the venue was haunted?

I only ask because there is a very popular location in Lexington that has seen more than it's fair share of weddings over the years. It's the Mansion at Griffin Gate which is also a Marriott golf resort and spa.

The mansion was built in 1854 and underwent a massive $200,000 renovation in 2016. That renovation included a restoration of extraordinary white oak floors that were uncovered when crews pulled up the old carpet. What renovators did NOT do was excavate the terrifying legacy of the Mansion at Griffin Gate.

At one time, a teenager named Gretta lived in the building. It is said that Gretta hung herself after she was rejected by a boy and or was stood up for her date. The Mansion-Griffin Gate is a historical building that at one time served as a private residence. At one time there was a teenager who lived there by the name of Gretta, and it is her spirit who apparently haunts the building today. Employees have mentioned spiritual reports especially in the Blue Room (Gretta’s Room) and where she took her life. Lights and/or candles in this room will often flicker. Many say that they will feel a cool breeze as they sit down to eat, even though there are no air vents that would cause this to happen.

Apparently, Gretta still considers this her room. If she gets mad, its been reported that she causes things to move and swing, such as the chandelier.

Now, here's the thing about the Mansion at Griffin Gate with regard to the folklore of Gretta...there are no videos of ghost hunts inside the mansion. My guess is the Marriott does not host them and might even downplay the story. While that hasn't stopped it from showing up on a list of the most haunted places in Lexington (the mansion is ranked third here and fourth in the video below )...

...the haunted history ALSO has not stopped Griffin Gate from being one of the most attractive destinations for travelers to Lexington, either.

But I'll keep looking. I have no doubt in my mind that if anyone encounters anything outside of our "realm," they'll post it to social media quicker than the blink of an eye.
