Best friends help us through all of life's ups and downs.  Today is a day to celebrate them for all they are in the times we need them most and the special memories we share.

MAKING FRIENDS

Angel here and I moved around a lot.  Actually, 13 times before I ever reached high school.  Making friends wasn't hard for me but finding and keeping a best friend was near impossible.

FINALLY FINDING FRIENDS

I finally settled down in Owensboro at Burns Middle School and was able to make friends.  I have a handful of friends that I have known since I was a tween that have been through the toughest and best times of my life.  From divorce to the birth of my kids to laying my sweet momma to rest.

MY #1 BEST FRIEND

If you know me you know of all the friends I do have my momma was my best.  She knew the innermost parts of my life.  She knew my skeletons and my demons and she loved me the same.  Some people say parents and kids should not be best friends and I would agree to an extent.  However, my momma and I became the very best of friends late in life.  She taught me about the kind of friend I wanted to be.

FRIENDS ARE FAMILY

Friends are our chosen family.  One of the most important things I've learned over the years is you don't have to be blood-related to be family.  I have friends who include me and my family in their holiday celebrations.

OLD AND NEW BEST FRIENDS

As I said earlier I have friends I have known for years and those who came into my life as an adult.  Each holds a super special place.  I had three friends that went through their divorces at the same time and we leaned on one another through the process.  I have a few women who journeyed with me in the darkest and most awful times of my life and laughed with me during the very best.

WHAT MAKES A BEST FRIEND

Everyone has their own definition of what makes a best friend.  For me, it is those individuals who have come alongside me in life and never left.  Who accepts me for the crazy, chaotic, all over the place life I live and love me even more for it.  It's the ones who check on my kids on the first day of school or send me flowers on my daughter Kathern's birthday.  My best friends are the ones I don't have to talk with every day but when we do talk it is like no time has passed at all.  I love the low-maintenance friendships I have gained over the years.  Today I celebrate those people.

Who is your best friend?  Celebrate them today at the WBKR Facebook Page.
