Yes, Hooters do Float: Kentucky Restaurant’s Ohio River Swan Song
Well, you think you've seen it all...until you look out at the river on a regular ole Thursday and spot a Hooter's restaurant just floating along in all of its glory.
Hooter's Bankruptcy Closings
No, this is not a publicity stunt; it is actually much sadder than that. At least for fans of wings served with a side of sass at the iconic "owl-themed" chain. You probably heard the news back in March that Hooter's corporate office filed for bankruptcy. In June, the company suddenly closed thirty of its locations across 14 states.
Hooters on the Licking River
Mind out of the gutter, y'all! lol! Unfortunately, that means that a Northern Kentucky restaurant served its last fried pickle a couple of months ago. The Newport location is what folks saw make its way via barge towards the Licking River on Thursday, August 21st. It was a floating restaurant to begin with, so that must have been the easiest way to transport it for demolition.
What is the Other Building Floating With Hooters?
There is another former restaurant building, The Beer Sellar, keeping it company on the journey. I came across this TikTok with a different angle. The Cincinnati Enquirer shared that they are on their way to C & B Marine, where they will be "dismantled."
Kentucky Hooters Swan Song
So this is her swan song! Goodbye Newport Hooters! You served us well. It was a popular spot before and after ballgames, so it will certainly be missed. Tributes immediately started to flow on social media like the drafts the bar once poured.
"Years ago, going there before a Bengals game and riding the boat over was a blast."
"So sad! Always went there before Reds games and then the ferry to the game! Like losing a loved one…lol"
"Were there 13-year-old boys and middle-aged men lining the banks, weeping and saluting?"
The funniest comment? "Well ……would ya look’ee there……. Hooters…do float!"
