Kentucky Lottery Launches Online Gambling Site

On Monday, online play officially began at the Kentucky Lottery website. It's pretty simple, ticket buyers won't have to stand in long lines if the Powerball builds up to almost $2 billion as it did earlier this year.

Kentucky becomes the third state, along with Michigan and Georgia, to sell lottery tickets online. Powerball, Mega Millions, Kentucky Cash Ball, and five other instant games are available now to play. The company is trying to attract younger buyers, but they say their over 3,000 retailers should not be threatened by the online component. They point to Europe as an example of the younger market, ages 18-35, buying exclusively online.

Online players will help retailers by funding their accounts for play at stores that sell lottery tickets. Retailers will continue to receive 5 percent commission for those products.

Players must be 18 years or older, have a valid Kentucky address, and be within state borders to play online.
