California, European Filmmakers Descend Upon Tiny KY County
I've been praising the lucrative Kentucky Entertainment Incentive for a while now. Since 2022, the movie industry has found the Commonwealth to be a desirable filming location, and the tax credit provided by the KEI is a welcome reason for this.

While the incentive has been in place since before 2022, Kentucky's only recently seen a dramatic uptick in the presence of filmmakers here in the Bluegrass State. And small towns like Shelbyville, Campbellsburg, and Somerset, among others, have reaped the benefits. But what about a city with a population of 614? I say, "Why not?" Numbers don't determine charm and ambiance, and Frenchburg in Menifee County seems to have fit the bill for the makers of an Applachia-set crime drama about the opioid epidemic:
Filmmakers in Small Town Kentucky
Actress and M30 OXY associate producer Ebie Adkins couldn't believe it when she noticed a casting call for tiny Frenchburg. And now, lo and behold, here come producers from not only California but NORWAY as well. How about that? European filmmakers are ALSO finding favor with the Commonwealth and, specifically, one of its most sparsely populated counties. The most recent tally from World Population Review puts Menifee's population at 6,336.
By the way, visit the Menifee County Tourism website and check out the trailer for a SERIES that was filmed there. And it's not like the county had to try very hard; it just had to be itself.
Again, if you need a small town that's perfect for whatever story you want to put on the big screen, you need to do a deep dive into all 120 counties in the Bluegrass State. You might just hit the jackpot.
