I am a huge fan of the Olympics.  I have been since I was a kid.  In fact, I remember, distinctly watching the 1980 Winter Olympic opening ceremonies and I am pretty sure I have seen every opening ceremony since.

One of my favorite sports of the Summer Games (and I have many "favorites") is gymnastics.  So, in true Simone Biles and Team USA spirit, Angel and I decided to try our hand (and feet) at gymnastics for today's Wacky Wednesday challenge. So, we called Owensboro Gymnastics and Fitness Center to see if we could come over to practice.  We thought it would be fun to try to master some skills on the balance beam, the still rings and, finally, the vault.

Here's how it played out!

Okay, clearly Angel and I are not quite ready to prime time.  I'm not even sure we're ready for the beginner leagues.  LOL!

We have to give major props to the folks at Owensboro Gymnastics for agreeing to host the craziness today.  In fact, being in the building brought back some hilarious memories.

When I was in high school, my friend Allen Putman, who was a year older than me, decided that he was going to go off to the University of Kentucky and become a UK cheerleader.  The only problem was he had ZERO gymnastics training or ability.  So, to remedy that, he decided to take gymnastics at Owensboro Gymnast.  He told me I had to take classes with him because he "wasn't doing it alone."

He and I enrolled in a gymnastics class that met once a week.  Of course, it happened to meet at the exact same time that the Daviess County High School Cheerleaders (many of whom were our friends) had their weekly gymnastics and tumbling training.  Needless to say, all the girls did was stand around and make fun of the two us.  You know, kinda how today went with the class laughing at Angel and me.

While we may not ever land a cartwheel on a balance beam, we had a heckuva good time trying.  We won't ever win a gold, but we have heart goshdarnit.  The hearts of wannabe Olympic champions.
