More Owensboro Heroes Receive Shout-Outs on National High Five Day

Hands in the air, everybody. It's National High Five Day, and while you, no doubt, have a ton of folks in your circle who deserve the love a day like today inspires, I'm happy to share with you three more heroes nominated by those whose lives have been enriched by their presence. We've teamed up with Jiffy Lube to celebrate these local heroes.

KRISTA GLENN

Krista is the dispatcher for Daviess County Public Schools. Her name was submitted by her friend Stacy Smith who says, "She is the glue that holds the transportation department together." I spy a favorite bus driver here, as I have learned that Krista also works for Holiday World in employee transportation. That usually means teens who work there but are not old enough to have a driver's license. I STILL have fond memories of my favorite drivers (retro shout-outs to Pat and Mr. Henderson), so look out Krista. You're still going to be remembered decades from now. Sounds like a hero to me.

 BARRY RAYMER JR.

Somebody is might proud of her dad. That somebody would be Jolene Raymer who wants us to give a virtual high five to her pop Barry Raymer Jr.

Jolene says Barry is a great dad to her and her brother and sister and describes him as the hardest working person she knows. 34-year-old Barry is not only a hero to his family and friends but a hero to the community; he works for the Owensboro Fire Department. And his proud daughter says that part of the beautiful life he's built for himself and his family includes a hobby as a woodcarver. Jolene says they aren't a rich family, but her dad Barry "has always made sure we had a happy, healthy house and family and I'm proud to call him Dad."

DENISE CULBERTSON

Here's a salute to a GREAT grandmother (no hyphen) from her close friend Lisa Garrett who calls Denise Culbertson the "greatest friend to have." As admissions director at Chautauqua Health & Rehabilitation Center, Denise is in a position to have that kind of effect on a great many individuals. Devoted to her grandchildren, Denise goes out of her way whenever she can for family, her friends, and her co-workers. As Lisa says, "In my eyes, she is the greatest."

And a big THANK YOU on this end to all of our hometown heroes for making a difference in so many people's lives. Our community wouldn't make it without people like you.
