Have You Noticed This About February on the 2026 Calendar?
I hope I'm not the only one who thinks this is cool. Dorky, for sure, but if you like things to be even and orderly, you may appreciate this as much as I do. You may have already noticed.
While checking my calendar this morning to enter a February appointment, I saw that it was a perfect rectangle. All days fit symmetrically into the four weeks of the month. This is what I mean by that:
Four "perfect" weeks! When I mentioned this to Chad, he asked, "When was the last time that happened?" So I scrolled back through the years and found that it hasn't happened since 2015! Because I am a huge nerd, I went all the way down the rabbit hole. I kept scrolling and scrolling to find a pattern. Before 2015, it happened in 2009. Before 2009, it happened in 1998!
I can't believe I did this, but here is a list of Februarys with "perfect" months.
- 2026
- 2015
- 2009
- 1998
- 1987
- 1981
- 1970
- 1959
- 1953
- 1942
- 1931
OK, so we have determined that the pattern is 11 years, 11 years, 6 years, repeat. Apparently, a user on Reddit went back years to assess the entire pattern. I wonder why it isn't just every 11 years? Because of leap years? I have been searching for an explanation on the internet, but I can't find one. I have to admit, I am not great at calendar math.
I do know, obviously, that February is the only month that can have "perfect" weeks because of its 28 days. You also have to live in a country where your calendar begins on a Sunday to experience this. Germany, Australia, New Zealand, and France all start their calendars on Monday, so they will never have a symmetrical month.
Have you ever noticed this phenomenon before?
