Reed Sheppard Chooses the University of Kentucky
Breaking news this Saturday out of North Laurel High School in London. Junior guard Reed Sheppard announced where he will be playing college basketball and yes, if the last name "Sheppard" sounds familiar, good catch.
First off, here's the five-star guard's announcement (press conference begins at 4:45 mark):
Both Reed's parents played basketball at UK and I'm sure you remember his dad Jeff.
Jeff Sheppard was part of two national championship teams with the Wildcats in 1996 and in 1998. Sheppard's NCAA tournament performance in '98 earned him the "Most Outstanding Player" award. Reed's game is very similar to his father's. In fact, they are both 6'3". They can both jump and easily dunk the ball.
The younger Sheppard chose Kentucky over Louisville (dang!), Indiana, Ohio State, Iowa, and Virginia. Reed is the first to commit to the Cats' class of 2023.
The Sheppards become the latest father-son duo to play for the Cats. Others include Owensboro's own Wayne and Rex Chapman, Allen and Deron Feldhaus, Terry and Cameron Mills, and Anthony and *Makayla Epps. Makayla played for the Chicago Sky in the WNBA.
