This summer heat wave has been ROUGH. I've had to spend a lot of time outside this week, and I gotta be honest, I am not made for this weather. I think I may be part penguin.

Don't get me wrong, as long as there is a body of water and a float, I am down to spend a whole hot day outside, but otherwise you'll find me with my fan and a cold beverage. This Lavender Lemon Limeade that Merritt Bates-Thomas from The Kitchen Transition shared with me today is the perfect sweet yet tart drink to quench your thirst.

Lavender Lemon Limeade Ingredients

5 cups water, divided
2/3 cup sugar
1 tablespoon culinary lavender
1 cup fresh lemon & lime juice (I used a 2 pound bag of lemons & limes, juiced)
Ice cubes
Lemon or lime wheels and lavender bloom spikes for garnish

How to Make Lavender Lemon Limeade

1. In a saucepan, combine sugar, lavender buds, and 1 cup water. Bring to a simmer, then remove from the heat and let steep for 20 minutes.

2. Juice lemons and limes.

3. Strain out lavender buds from your infused simple syrup.

4. In a large pitcher, combine lavender syrup, fresh-squeezed lemon and lime juice, and remaining 4 cups of water. Stir well and chill thoroughly.

5. Serve over ice, garnished with lemon and lime wheels along with lavender bloom spikes if desired.
