If you live in Daviess County and you don't live in its western half, you've likely experienced the mini-road trip required to renew your driver's license. Whereas we were once able to head downtown to the Judicial Center, we now have to make the trek out to Highway 81.

Now, however, any drive you could take to update your license will be considered "too long" now that you can renew your Kentucky driver's license online. Now, to be fair, when I got my new one in January, I was in and out of the bureau in less than 10 minutes. It had to have been a personal record.

Kentucky MyDrive

Anyway, back to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's launch of MyDrive and the opportunity to not have to plan your day around getting a new driver's license. Seriously, that quick trip earlier this year is the exception, not the rule. And so, here comes the MyDrive portal to the rescue.

How to Use MyDrive

First-timers can create a MyDrive account at mydrive.ky.gov/_/eservices/_/ and will need to fill out a pre-application form before visiting their driver's license regional office. If you're already licensed, you can connect your MyDrive account using a Letter ID, which you can request if you don't have one. The same goes for those with a CDL (commercial driver's license).

MyDrive began on June 8th, and even if you don't need to renew your license anytime soon, you will, at some point. KYTC Director of Public Affairs Naitore Djigbenou suggests getting it out of the way now so you won't be caught flat-footed.
