Country music superstar Sam Hunt was arrested early Thursday morning after his vehicle was observed swerving in and out of traffic while traveling south in the northbound lanes of Ellington Parkway.

WKRN-Nashville says Hunt was charged with driving under the influence and having an open container in the vehicle.

The report says that when he was asked to produce his driver's license, Hunt fumbled for it before presenting a Nashville police officer with a credit card.

WKRN also tells us that the officer noticed the smell of alcohol right away and that Hunt's eyes were bloodshot.

He admitted to the police that he had been drinking and then took a field sobriety test. His blood alcohol content was .173, more than twice the legal limit.

Sam Hunt rapidly became a country superstar upon the release of his debut album, Montevallo, which yielded five consecutive number one songs.

He followed those releases with his biggest hit to date, "Body Like a Back Road," and recently returned to the national country airplay top ten with his newest song, "Kinfolks."

Hunt's court date has been set for January 17th, 2020.
