Stuff the Bus Event in Owensboro Collects Much-Needed Supplies to Help Local School Students
It's hard to believe that the start of the new school year is just a couple of weeks away. It's also hard to believe that we're just days away from the 5th Annual Stuff the Bus event. Daviess County Public Schools and Owensboro Public Schools are again teaming up to literally stuff a bus (well, actually, two of them) with much needed school supplies. And YOU can help achieve that goal.
Here's the scoop!
Basically, it's works exactly how it sounds.
DCPS and OPS will school buses parked at the two Walmart locations in Daviess County- 5301 Frederica Street and on Hwy 54. The buses will be on site from 7:30am to 5pm and the goal is the "stuff" them full of school supplies.
So, if you're out shopping and want to help contribute to the cause, you can do so by dropping off supplies at either Walmart location. Or, you can drop by, run into the store with a shopping list and buy what you can to help.
Here's a list of most needed items, though any school supplies are welcome.
Paper (loose leaf and notebooks)
Scissors
Pencils, pens, highlighters, crayons
Backpacks
School glue
Rulers
Folders and binders
Calculators
According to DCPS, the 2019 "Stuff the Bus" event generated school supplies valued at more than $19,000. That's incredible. The event was held last year during the COVID shutdown, but officials are expecting an even bigger turnout this year.
If you tune into the WBKR morning show on Thursday, we'll be sending Angel over to one of the Stuff the Bus locations to report live and give you some updates on how the annual drive is going.
You can tune in to 92.5 WBKR or on the WBKR app!

And, of course, COVID-19 remains a serious concern for the school year as the Delta variant continues to spread rapidly through the U.S. Many local parents continue to struggle with whether to vaccinate their children who are eligible to receive the vaccination.
If you have questions about the available vaccines, we may be able to provide some answers for you.
