Daviess County Sheriff Cain is one pretty awesome guy. To date, he and members of the community he has recruited over the years have run over 350 miles for Special Olympics.
Angel here and the first year I started working at the station I remember Chad coming into the studio telling me we're gonna run 13 miles with Sheriff Cain next week...
This is absolutely awesome and we are so proud of her! Rhythmic Gymnast Danielle Blakeney, of Kentucky, has completed her events at the Special Olympics World Games and the results are in. And she has won multiple gold medals! LOOK!
I am a sobbing mess. The Special Olympics World Games officially get underway this evening in Los Angeles with the Opening Ceremonies and, here in Western Kentucky, we are rooting for Chris Willis of Owensboro! Chris is representing Team USA in swimming and hopes to bring home gold. Chris is one of over 7,000 athletes from 177 different countries who are on hand to compete this summer. And the
How's that for an action shot? Just a fraction of a second after hovering above the Hines Center Lake, we were swimming in it. And a fraction of a second after this pic was taken, I was swearing like Andrew Dice Clay. And, you know what? I'm ready to do it all over again. The freezing AND the swearing. LOL! The 2014 Polar Bear Plunge is coming up Saturday, February 8th at The Hines Center
It's that time again. And, yes! Here at WBKR, we are going to be Freezin' for a Reason at the 2014 Polar Bear Plunge. It's Saturday, February 8th at The Hines Center in Philpot and we'll be among the hundreds of folks who suck it up, throw caution to the shrinkage-inducing wind and jump into the icy cold waters of The Hines Center lake. Here are some video highlights from last year's Plunge!
This is HILARIOUS!! Saturday marked the 2013 Polar Bear Plunge at The Hines Center in Philpot and 200 plungers showed up to jump in the chilly, 22 degree waters of the Hines Center lake. Among them was Kizzy, who joined WBKR's team, Jimmy Parrot's Plungers. The cameras were rolling as Kizzy, decked out in a scuba suit, arm puffers and Korger bags, walked out onto the dock to prepare for her plu
I have said it multiple times before . . . jumping into a freezing-cold lake is the single WORST idea in history and the single-worst way to raise money for a charity. LOL! But, you know what! We're doing it anyway and we are going to have a blast. :)
I have been trying to get her to take the plunge for years! And now, finally, Kizzy has agreed to help WBKR raise money for Special Olympics Kentucky by taking the 2013 Polar Bear Plunge! It's Saturday, February 9th at The Hines Center in Philpot and, as Kizzy explains, it's going to be COLD!! Listen . . .

Obbie Todd and Sam Rutland visited the WBKR Waking Crew show earlier this week and told us about the big Special Olympics event scheduled for tomorrow at Apollo.
It's a Special Olympics weightlifting competition that starts at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow morning. The school is located at 2280 Tamarack Road.
The Polar Bear Plunge was Saturday morning at The Hines Center in Philpot. And, for the second consecutive year, record crowds and participants turned out to raise money for and support Special Olympics Kentucky! 233 plungers walked the plank at the Hines Center lake and plunged into the chilly waters and, in doing so, they raised $55,000 . . . an all-time record for Owensboro's event. As you k
