I've been keeping up with the romaine lettuce e.coli contamination--checking the Center for Disease Control's website to see what states are affected.

And while neither Kentucky nor Indiana is listed among the threatened states, the CDC is now issuing a blanket warning to "throw out" any and all of your romaine lettuce unless you know for a fact it did not come from the Yuma, Arizona growing region where the contaminated lettuce originated.

I take this to mean that the list of states in which cases of e.coli illness is expected to grow.

While most people usually have iceberg lettuce handy, romaine isn't a rare purchase. And it pops up on a lot of salad bars and in bagged salads.

Don't take any chances. If you don't know, get rid of the lettuce.
