Today is National Spouses Day across America.  It's supposed to be a day that celebrates the bond two people have with one another and allow them to appreciate each other.  I don't know about y'all but I like to do that daily with my guy.

Angel here and I like any opportunity I get to celebrate Joe.  He is a pretty darn good man if you ask me.  He is kind, super-duper patient, and loves me just the way I deserved to be loved.

I love the irony of this day for many reasons.  You all know I like to bare my heart and soul and basically air out all my dirty laundry and such to you folks, so here goes.  Years ago on this day, I filed for divorce from my first husband.  I had no idea then that it was National Spouse's Day.  Fast forward six years later and Joe and I quietly said "I do" in the chapel of the Daniel Pitino Shelter with just two witnesses joining us and our friend James who was Director of the shelter and Justice of the Peace at the time (six weeks later we had a big wedding).  See the irony there?  I married my new husband on the exact same day years later I filed for divorce from my first one.  You just can't make this crap up.

I didn't plan it that way it just happened and here we are happier than I could have ever imagined life could truly be.

Joe and I are blessed to be able to facilitate the Marriage Ministry at our church.  I have people ask me all the time what the secret to a good marriage is and here is what I tell them;

  • GOD FIRST!
  • Spouse next
  • Practice Grace upon Grace upon Grace (FORGIVE)
  • ALWAYS date one another
  • Never stop being silly together
  • And stop wanting what others have you are not them

One might have thought being in the middle of a pandemic would have caused more divorces it's actually just the opposite and we are seeing a decline in the rates.

Happy National Spouses Day to all!  Drop a photo of your spouse on the WBKR Facebook Page and tell us why you love them.
