Tri-State Moms Dish Out Real-Life Advice In Honor of Mother’s Day
Moms seriously know EVERYTHING! At least they seem like they do right?! We've solicited real-life advice from moms of the Tri-state in honor of Mother's Day.
I grew up with a single mom. She took every opportunity to use her life experiences as teachable moments. My mom raised more kids than I can count and she always seemed to know exactly what to say in any given situation.
My absolute favorite piece of advice she ever gave me was
When you are with someone make that person feel like they are the most important person in the world, during the time they spend with you. Because you never know the battles others face.
This changed how I treated people when I was with them. I started to truly listen and pay attention. You can learn a lot about someone in a very short amount of time. We move so fast anymore you can often miss an opportunity to love or care for someone if you are texting or playing on your phone while spending time with them. Be intentional.
The next piece of advice she gave me was "Get your education because no one can ever take that from you." She told me I would need it as I got older. I remember her saying this to me right before college. She wanted me to be able to support myself and not have to depend on anyone when I was an adult. She knew what it was like to depend on others and how they can fail you and she didn't want me to go through what she had gone through. Guess What?! She was right. I got my degree and I have never had to depend on someone to take care of me or my children. I ended up a single mom after momma passed away and the advice she gave me stuck. I kept it tucked in my heart. I am so grateful she loved me enough to instill in me life lessons and love to help me navigate life long after she was gone. Now I am able to continue what she started in my own children.
What advice did your mother give you that has helped you through life? Good or bad or hilarious we want to hear it. Head to the WBKR Facebook page and tell us.
