When the clock strikes 12:00 a.m. this Friday, New Year's Day, Webster County will have a new sheriff in town.

Webster County Judge-Executive Steve Henry has appointed Donald Jones of Sebree to fill the position after serving as Chief Deputy to retiring Sheriff Frankie Springfield over the last 15 years. Henry said several highly qualified candidates were interviewed. Henry went on to say "while it is the Judge-Executive who appoints to fill the vacancy under Kentucky statute, it does not say that the Judge has to select the candidate for the position."

Outgoing Sheriff Springfield, who was elected five times, had the opportunity to make the selection of the new Sheriff.
