Black History Month — Nearly 40 years Separate Linda Martell and Rissi Palmer
For Black History Month, here's another look at significant black Country singers that have graced the airwaves to some degree over the years. Today Linda Martell:
We played Linda Martell's music at WINN in Louisville back in the 70's. She was on Plantation Records, the home of Jeannie C. Riley and Harper Valley PTA fame. Linda was the first African-American woman to sing on the Grand Ole Opry in August of 1969. She made 11 more appearances before she retired in 1974.
And, Rissi Palmer:
Rissi, on the other hand, is still very active. You can read more about her and Linda at Wikipedia, the go to site for finding info on just about anybody. Rissi's not had super success yet, but there is still plenty of time.
