12 KY Grade School Items and Activities From the Past–Two Are Definitely Gone
I have no kids, so I have not been regaled with "what happened in school today" since I did the regaling way back when. And there are quite things I can recall that used to be routine when I was in elementary.
Some of those "ancient" realities may no longer BE realities--I know for a fact that at least TWO of them aren't--and some may still be par for the course. One of my favorite memories of elementary school was a Halloween event that happened in the first grade. It was called the Fall Frolic, and I remember a "haunted house" being set up in two adjoining classrooms. I also remember the scares were at a much higher level than what you typically expect when you know six- and seven-year-olds will be traipsing through your menacing maze.
There were Christmas shows with a different theme every year, and each class got a spotlighted segment.
There was that infernal gym rope that I simply COULD. NOT. CLIMB. I loved the trampoline, and I was a pretty good runner. And everybody wanted me on their kickball team. But I couldn't even get up on that first knot, let alone climb to the ceiling. And it was a GYM ceiling, and you know how high those things are.
But whatever happened in grade school didn't stay in grade school in my memories. All of them are good ones. However, some of what happened in grade school decades ago MAY have stayed in grade school. Here's a list of activities, items, and food that may or may not be a part of an elementary school student's day anymore.
