The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) will always hold a special place in the hearts of fans here in Southern Indiana. Those talented ladies played back in the 1940s and 50s, and finally got the attention they deserved thanks to the 1992 movie A League of Their Own, which was filmed in Evansville and Huntingburg.

A New Era of Professional Baseball

If you weren’t around 80 years ago, and you want to see the ladies play baseball in person, your wait is almost over. Get ready for the launch of a Women’s Pro Baseball League (WPBL). Real teams. Real games. Real women. Real baseball. The league is set to launch in 2026, but before that can happen, they have to get players!

WPBL Tryouts Set for August

The WPBL will host national tryouts from August 22-25, in Washington, D.C. If you’re a woman with dreams of playing professional baseball, it might be worth your time and effort to take that road trip, because 150 players from those tryouts will advance to the league’s October draft.
