It has to be one of the best reality TV shows ever made. The blindsides, the rewards, the bug bites, the drama, I'm talking about Survivor on CBS. Kentucky is being represented on the new season, Ghost Island, in Kimper's own Donathan Hurley.

As of this writing, and this is not really a spoiler, Donathan has made it about halfway through the competition. In case you're wondering where Kimper is, it's an unincorporated community in Pike County. In other words, it's very small.

So I got to thinking about the other four Kentuckians who have competed, and the one who got the farthest and he was the first from the Bluegrass to appear on the show, we have to go all the way back to season two and the Australian Outback. Rodger Bingham, from Crittenden, Kentucky (Grant County) made it all the way to the top 5 and the jury. It was pretty cool that he almost won.

We had to wait until sixteen season later for another Kentuckian to show up. This time Sandy Burgin, a bus driver from Louisville was thrown into the mix in Brazil for Survivor: Tocaninis. This time, Sandy wasn't as lucky as Rodger, she was voted out on day 12.

Fast forward to season 28, Survivor: Cagayan and the world was introduced to former Miss Kentucky Teen USA Jefra Bland from Campbellsville. This was the "Brawn vs. Brains vs. Beauty" season, Jefra was obviously on the Beauty tribe. Bland made it to the merge, day 30, and the jury. She finished 7th.

Okay, so this next competitor, I did not watch his first time on the show and he's the local, from Hopkinsville! Caleb Reynolds holds the distinction of competing twice, first on Survivor: Kaoh Rong where he finished 15th, the reason, he had to be medically evacuated, therefore taken out the game. Reynolds returned on season 34, Game Changers, and he was voted out on Day 9, finished 18th. Caleb also holds another distinction, he's also competed on the CBS reality series Big Brother.

Last but not least, the most recent Kentuckian to compete besides Donathan is Jessica Johnston from Louisville by way of Cape Girardeau, Missouri. As a nurse practitioner, Jessica was originally a member of the "Healers" tribe on Survivor: Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers.

Ironically, Jessica made it to day 19 (finished 12th), which is where we are now on Ghost Island.

Will Donathan be able to make it to the top 10 or top 5 or WIN? Stay tuned.
