Owensboro's own Kentucky Mavericks will have a good dose of local flavor next season, after drafting two Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers in PBL draft, earlier this week. The Mavs drafted KWC stars Marcus Fillyaw and CJ Blackwell, Blackwell, the third leading scorer for Wesleyan last season, averaged 13.7 points per game.Fillyaw led the Panthers in assists for the 2015-16 season, dishing out 110 assists to his teammates.

Mavericks coach, Steve Tucker, seemed excited about the new additions saying, "We are extremely excited about acquiring the rights to these two young men. We feel both can make an impact on our pro basketball team immediately." The Mavs won 18 games last season, before losing in the Mid-West Divisonal Playoffs. Owensboro basketball fans will have the chance to cheer on these two hometown players, when the Mavericks season begins in January.
