Kroger has announced it will hire 10,000 permanent positions in its supermarket stores. As of January 2016, the company had about 431,000 full and part time workers and they hired more than 12,000 last year in 35 states and Washington, D.C.

Kroger has also hired 44,000 veterans since 2009. The chain is facing tough online competition from the likes of Walmart and Amazon; they were getting squeezed out by declining food prices. The store did recently add a feature called ClickList where a consumer can shop online, then pick up his/her groceries at a reserved time at the closest location.
