Local Couple Keep Romance Alive After 65 Years [PHOTOS]

Norman and Becky Hedden are proof that true love never grows old. They've been married for 65 years and we want to share their beautiful love story!

Here's how I met this amazing couple. I hadn't eaten all day and was trying to choose where I wanted to have a late lunch. I wanted to grab a bite and write a story on my computer. It was quiet in the restaurant since it was 3:00 in the afternoon. I slid into a booth, ordered food and got settled in.

As I wrote my article, I could hear the couple in the booth behind me talking sweet to each other. Okay, yes, I was technically eavesdropping, but I couldn't help myself. They touched my heart and reminded me of what true love is all about. They had no problem expressing their true love for one another.

Here's a summary of their conversation.

She told him that she enjoyed her dinner (yes dinner, because they always eat early). He said that he enjoyed his dinner too, because he was having dinner with her. She said, that was her favorite part too! He also doted on her when she said that she was cold. 

He said that he wouldn't know what he would do without her. She said that he is the love her life.

After dinner, the spunky couple planned to put on their pajamas, and crawl under the covers to watch television.

Listening to them show love and support each other, made my heart skip a beat. It was obvious that romance was still alive and well in their marriage.

I had to get up and let them know how much that they made my day. They turned out to be the cutest couple that I've met in a very long time. We all introduced ourselves and I sat down with them....I didn't do that part. I'm bad, but not THAT bad! We did chit chat a little though.

I found out that Norman and Becky celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on June 2nd, 2019. The way that this couple fell in love is almost too cute for words (more about that later). They looked so in love and were just smiling at each other as we talked. It truly took my breath away.

We said our goodbyes, and they headed out for that date night under the covers. I talked about them all weekend long with friends. I couldn't get that special bond and love that they had for each other, out of my head. It was a very poignant moment for me. And....I thought that would be the last of our encounter. But, nope!

Over the weekend I got a Facebook message from a friend. "Hey girl I heard you met a very cute elderly couple at Friday’s yesterday," wrote Paula. "My parents!! Norman and Becky Hedden!" Needless to say. I was stinking excited. Paula added, "Dad will be 89 in April and Mom will be 86 in November. They are so funny and happy."

Paula shared more about how they met. "Mom is from Alabama. Dad had just returned from a stint in the military. After Mom moved to Owensboro, she went to church with a friend of hers. After church my dad sent a friend over to ask her out.... she said NO, and if he wanted to go out with her, he had to ask himself.... so he did."

She went on to add, "They dated around 6 months and then he proposed to her in the parking lot of the Cadillac restaurant.... that was the place back then."

Norman and Becky Hedden have stood the test of time and have become a lasting love story.  Here's to many more years together, making beautiful memories, and having date nights under the covers. Cheers!
