Special Guest DJs Bring Holiday Cheer To Owensboro, KY Radio Show
"I should work in radio."- Steven Shively
Today was an extra special day at The Country Station, 92.5 WBKR. Five clients from The Opportunity Center of Owensboro joined me as my special guest DJs for the day. My regular co-host, Mary-Katherine Maddox, is on a two-week vacation. So, I invited some of my friends from the center to join me and try to fill her shoes for the morning. They did a magnificent job.
First up was my longtime friend Steven Shively.
WAY back in the day, he and I attended Settle Memorial United Methodist Church together. His sister Stephanie and I studied at Kentucky Wesleyan College at the same time. I literally have known Steven for most of my life. I just turned 54. He's about to turn 53.
He's been on the station before and just slid right back into the groove this morning. He opened the 8am hour with me, helped me set the stage, and introduce his friends who joined him in the studio.
Jacob, another radio natural/ham, took over the mic to help me talk about the Edge Ice Center's Ugly Christmas Sweater Skate.
He also heralded the benefits of having the WBKR app. Yeah, this one-->

Hilariously and endearingly, Jacob downloaded the app so he could listen in and hear himself on the air!
When Jacqueline took the hot seat, we chatted about today's morning show poll.
Jacqueline also admitted that she still has some Christmas shopping to do.
My buddy Hunter, the reigning champ of the local talent contest We've Got Talent Too, took his seat and we chatted about his two favorite Christmas movies.
Hunter even came to the studio decked out in a t-shirt inspired by National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.
Then, Michael- proudly wearing his University of Kentucky Wildcats fan gear- sat down and we chatted about the fact that he's from McLean County (Calhoun to be exact).
We also talked about his plans for New Year's Eve and his ongoing search for a sweetheart and valentine.
My friends from The Opportunity Center are the best! Their enthusiasm is contagious and they joined me- on Christmas Eve Eve- to help make December 23rd, a particularly cloudy day here in the Tristate, a much more merry and bright one for our WBKR listeners. Like broadcast pros (and Santa Claus), they delivered.
Turns out Steven may have been right. They need to work in radio!
