The Kentucky Derby isn't the only long-standing tradition in the Commonwealth that takes place the first weekend of May. There's another popular event that occurs down in Owensboro the same weekend. The 62nd Annual Tamarack Elementary School Carnival kicks off Thursday, May 1st.

Tamarack Principal Carrie Munsey sent me a text message a couple of days ago. It's message? Simple, but really fun. It read, "It's Carnival Time!"

WHEN IS THE TAMARACK CARNIVAL?

The Tamarack Elementary School Carnival isn't just open to faculty, students and staff at Tamarack. It's for anyone in the community who wants to come and have fun. That fun gets underway Thursday, May 1st from 4pm to 7pm. And, get this! Thursday night is DOLLAR NIGHT!  All tickets and rides are just $1 a piece.

There are a few noticeable changes to the carnival for the 2025 edition. Principal Munsey says, "There are no inside games this year." The beloved Tamarack Grill will be fired up though. They'll be serving hamburgers, hotdogs, Starlight Cafe Cookies, popcorn, sodas, water and more.

And there is one notable time change. Historically, the carnival has lasted until 10pm on its Saturday night. However, this year it will wrap up at 8pm.
