Today marks the end of an era here in Owensboro-Daviess County. News circulated on social media this morning that the popular Tamarack Carnival is being canceled. As you can imagine, reactions flooded in quickly.

Danielle Randolph shared this on social media. She wrote, "I really love when schools host events and tailor school life around the community. I feel like schools have gotten away from that."

Carrie Munsey, who is the current principal at Tamarack, says, "The decision to discontinue the Tamarack Carnival was made with careful consideration of rising operational costs and much smaller crowds."

Anyone from this area has grown accustomed to the cars and crowds along Tamarack Road near the elementary school the first weekend of each May. That event has long been a staple for the students and families of Tamarack, as well as local carnival lovers. Sadly, attendance has declined considerably over the last few years.

Carrie adds, "The Tamarack Carnival has definitely created countless memories for our school community, and we are so proud to have been able to foster those moments."

Though the carnival will be closing up shop, Munsey and her faculty are excited about what the future holds. She says, "Tamarack is a school rooted in creating moments where every student shines like the star they are. We cannot wait to see what new traditions are created."
