Moon’s Three Questions to Ponder — Deep Thoughts from a Deep Thinker

Let's take time to ponder life's mysteries.
QUESTION #1
Crying. Tears. Weeping. Some people well up at the slightest drop of spilled milk. Others never tear up. For me the water works flow when I see a sweet little kid hugging his or her mama, the end of Old Yeller or when I find I forgot to restock the scotch.  Actors and actresses can produce a crying jag on cue.  Jimmy is always telling Chad, "Cry me a river". Now, question number one:

Linda Ronstadt on a Blast from the Past Weekend — Moon Remembers Meeting Her

It was May 25, 1970, when I met Linda Ronstadt.  Freedom Hall, Louisville, Kentucky. Linda opened for Arlo Guthrie. While he performed the medley of his hit, leaving my wife (also named Linda) and friends in their seats, I traipsed backstage and caught up with the lovely Linda who was so nice to me. Dre

Why Carrie Was Mean to Chad

Now, we know why Carrie Underwood was mean to Chad when we met her in 2008. We were backstage at the Kenny Chesney show. Carrie was just starting out and meeting radio folks, like us. Well, she seemed really distant, non-responsive and somewhat rude

The Jocking Dead: Moon, Chad, Jaclyn, and Dave After the Zombie Apocalypse [GRAPHIC IMAGES]

First of all, I'm a huge fan of AMC's The Walking Dead, as you may know. Second, last Sunday's episode--entitled "Clear"--was the best episode, so far, since the series began. Great writing!

Moon Remembers Mindy

It is such a sad waste when a human being takes his or her own life. Sometimes -- as in the case of Mindy McCready -- the stresses of living can become so overwhelming they think suicide is the only answer

50th Anniversary in Country Radio

I was working at KECK, Odessa, Texas, when I didn't return from a funeral in time and was fired. I swear, every time I have been given the ax, they cut a new slice of life for me that is better.

Dee Fletcher, one of the deejays there that went on to be a very successful TV weatherman, called Sky Corbin at KLLL in my hometown of Lubbock, Texas, and told Sky we've got this kid here whose pretty good

NASCAR Cup Race Preview – Pure Michigan 400

WBKR NASCAR Preview: Pure Michigan 400

After a weekend of both left and right turns, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will make their 2nd visit of the season at Michigan International Speedway, the sight of this weekend’s event. NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr. will be trying to defend his title at Michigan after going to victory lane in the June event.

Last week’s winner, Marcos Ambrose set a qualifying record at the 2-mile oval in June with a speed of over 203 MPH. Since then, drivers and teams have returned to the track for a Goodyear tire test where NASCAR tested and developed a new tire for this weekend’s event. Speeds are expected to be slower this weekend due to the tire compound change and wear on the track’s repaved asphalt. Can he make it two in a row? Marcus told Fox News, “We really got a good shot at it there. We have to really concentrate on car speed”.

Meet Moon’s Meat – It Was No Treat

I love my new Weber grill. It cooks everything so evenly and just right when you follow the recipes. So, when I heard from Omaha steaks that they wanted to send me a bunch of steaks and other delectables, I said, send 'em on, buddy. They were so good. I mean just look how they cooked on the Weber!

Steaks, pork chops, chicken. Haven't had a bad one in the bunch. But, they are kinda costly. So, when Debra and I made our way through the aisles of the local, friendly Wal-Mart, this caught my eye.

Patsy Cline: Crazy for Loving You Hall of Fame Exhibit to Open in August

In March, 1963, I was working at my first country station, KLLL, in my hometown of Lubbock, TX. The tragic news of Patsy Cline's death in a plane crash near Dyersburg, TN., came as such a shock. She, at the time, was country music's biggest female star. Also, passing away were country singers Hawkshaw Hawkins and Cowboy Copas. Now, we've learned from Taste of Country that Patsy is the subject of an upcoming exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville. Patsy Cline: Crazy for Loving You will open in the museum’s East Gallery on Aug. 24, signing rent for a ten-month run.

Moon Knew This All Along – Scotch is the ‘Manliest Drink’

Masculinity and scotch. They go together. Of course, for a long while, scotch was thought to be enjoyed by only old dudes. Well, according to the guys at guyspeed.com, "It’s not just for dudes anymore. Actually, it is but the very notion of dudeness as we know it is changing and evolving", as the 2012 edition of Ask Men's Great Survey, has found. GuySpeed goes on to say:

Jeannie C. Riley Socked It to Them 44 Years Ago Today [Video]

Today, July 26, 2012, I recall a day 44 years ago when I was at KCKN in Kansas City and received a call from former KCKN deejay Early Williams, who was working in Nashville for Shelby Singleton at Plantation Records. Early told me he had a acetate (a record-looking, round object on which test pressings were issued) to send me of a new singer and a song written by Tom T. Hall, who had had some success already as a writer-singer. The song was HARPER VALLEY P.T.A., and I was the first to play it. It was an immediate smash and very quickly became a number one country and pop hit. It went on to sell eight million copies.
