“You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.”- John Bunyan (1628-1688).

That quote is firmly on display on the website of New Beginnings Sexual Assault Support Services here in Owensboro, Kentucky. And it's that quote which frames the current ask the local agency has of you.

New Beginnings has an urgent need for crisis response volunteers here in western Kentucky. I have served on the board of New Beginnings for a couple of years and have gotten to witness the incredible work the agency does in our area.  In addition to offering important educational services that see to prevent sexual assualt, we provide free and confidential counseling services to child and adult victims of it.

We have an office here in Owensboro, plus offices in Henderson and Hartford as well and our therapists serve clients from seven counties- Daviess, Hancock, Henderson, McLean, Ohio, Union and Webster.

And to explain the magnitude of what we do and the great necessity for our services, here are some startling stats from the first three months of this year alone. From the seven counties listed above, we served over 300 victims between January and March of 2022.

What we need from you, based on those numbers and occurrences is simple. We are looking for crisis volunteers who can respond to local hospitals after hours to sit with and advocate for area victims of sexual assault.
