On March 1st, 2014, the Owensboro Convention Center played host to the annual River City Festival of Films--an extraordinary event which has grown by leaps and bounds since its beginnings in a vacant space at Towne Square Mall.
It was five years ago when Chad Benefield and myself invited Owensboro filmmaker P.J. Starks to be a guest on our WOMI talk show The Screening Room. We were going to get to screen his first feature, Hallows Eve: Slaughter on Second Street.
Ever since we learned the news that Joe Lowe has cancer, the entire community has come together to do whatever it can to help. Everything from lifting Joe's spirits with cards or by signing the scrapbook we have in the lobby to organizing benefits as a form of paying tribute, everyone has chipped in.
If you see a guy walking down your street just staring at houses and perhaps being tailed by a group of people who might have cameras, well, not to worry. That could very well just be Owensboro filmmaker PJ Starks. He's scouting locations for a new film he plans to start shooting this summer.
