Ever since we learned the news that Joe Lowe has cancer, the entire community has come together to do whatever it can to help. Everything from lifting Joe's spirits with cards or by signing the scrapbook we have in the lobby to organizing benefits as a form of paying tribute, everyone has chipped in.

I like how many in the community have used their own resources. For example, Gambrinus Libation Emporium will host a benefit screening of Verite' Cinema's Hallows Eve: Slaughter on 2nd Street on October 22. (You must be 21 to enter.)

The film's writer and director--our good buddy, Owensboro's own P.J. Starks--has been supported tremendously over the years by Joe and was more than happy to help out.

What a very cool idea! And just before Halloween! And at Gambrinus--just a few blocks down from the "scene of the crime!"

The doors will open at 7 with the film beginning at 7:30. Your $5 admission and any silent auction item sales will go to benefit Joe and his family. Several area businesses have donated items and the list keeps growing.

Joe Lowe has done much for this community and now, once again, the community is responding in kind. A big thanks to Gambrinus and P.J. Starks for putting this together.

Very nice!
